Only about 2 miles away near the intersection of US-17 and FL-64 in Zolfo Springs is the Cracker Trail Museum. The museum displays many items collected from the local pioneer families that developed this part of Florida starting in the 1800s.  The Florida Crackers raised horses and cattle.

Bok Tower Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and offers contemplative outdoor activities.  The Singing Tower and gardens and trails are great for an picnic outing, geocaching or just a hike.

How about
Antiquing in Arcadia?   With some 20 Antique shops in a 4 block area it's the number one destination for browsers in Florida.

Less than half an hour away towards Arcadia, FL you can find
Lions, Tigers & Bears.  It is a non-profit animal refuge.  They have educational tours but the open hours are limited so check their schedules.

Herrmanns' Royal Lipizzan Stallions are in Myakka City, FL just over half an hour away.  These are the real deal!

Solomon's Castle?  It's only about half an hour away.

If you are a kayak or canoe enthusiast the
Peace River Paddling Trail is near by with the nearest access point being in Pioneer Park in Zolfo Springs only a couple miles West of the Florida SKP Resort.  The entire desgnated paddling trail from Bartow to Arcadia is some 67 miles roughly parallel to US-17.  Incidentally, the Peace River gets its name from the Spanish who called Rio de la Paz by the Spanish as early as 1544.
